MANNinCHINA: North Korea…to go or not to go?

Michael Mann is living dangerously. A round of golf in North Korea the week they light off a nuclear test? No thanks.

“Over the weekend, a couple of friends here in Beijing told me about a trip to North Korea, planned for the last weekend in October. Basically, it’s a golf/sight-seeing trip with a “business” twist.

“As soon as I heard about it I immediately said “I’m in.” How many chances does one get to go to North Korea? I’m not afraid to go…what’s the worst that could happen? Well, I guess there are plenty of bad things that could happen to a US citizen in North Korea…but what are the chances of them happening?”

  1. I said it there I’ll say it here:

Mike don’t do it! I’d rather go to Bagdhad with an “US Rules” t-shirt on than to North Korea.

  2. Alright, alright…I can’t go this time around anyway. No Americans allowed on this trip, due to the nuke test. However, when next May comes around and if I can go, I am defintely in. I can’t picture anything bad happening to me while there. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to a place that not many “foreigners” have ever or will ever go to.

  3. Totally onboard with you. Like Richard Burton infiltrating Mecca. Robert Byron in Oxiana. Put on a pith helmet and send back dispatches from inside the forbidden zone. But first make sure you don’t get hosed by the State Department. I believe the penalty for going to Cuba is loss of passport. For life.

  4. Cooba has great bessboll. it’s a US$390 flight from Tijuana and los Cubannos are happy not to stamp your pass port. The country loves US $20-, 50- and 100-dollar bills.
US State has no sense of humor
