Dude, 5/3 house with 40 Haas avocado trees on three acres on the hill to the south of me is for sale. you get a year round breeze across the top of the hill, good clean water, great bi-lingual schools, the opportunity to plink errant gophers and ground squirels, no snow ever just the infrequent wild lands fire and the free use of my tiny tractor to work on the .25-acre rose garden this house has..and the price is only about $1.2 M. the house also has a boat port, a three-car garage, and a legal detached in-law.

Why is the cost so high in Massachusettes compared with US average? I think they should build a nuclear power plant near the cape and export the electric power for a profit to Massachusettes.

In 2003, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) issued a report entitled, “The Future of Nuclear Power”. They estimated that new nuclear power in the US would cost 6.7 cents per kWh.[1] However, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 includes a tax credit that should reduce that cost slightly.
So, get the power plant built, reduce your energy costs to 1/3 of their current costs (your $400 bill drops to $133) and make a 9 cents per kWh profit exporting to the rest of Massachusetts.
My husband and I are on a budget plan with our gas and electric bills so that the costs are spread out through the course of the year. Makes for easy budgeting. We pay $75 per month for gas and $120 per month for electric.
Our local utility commissioners want to eliminate the budget plan because it doesn’t encourage me to conserve. My foot … I conserved and they brought down my gas bill from $100/month to $75! I don’t put my heat above 70 or my cooling below 75. If people are really abusing the program and using more then their fare share, trust me the electric or gas company will raise the rates. They are not, after, a charity.
Personally, I think it’s discriminatory to low wage earners. Whilst I might be able to come up with a $400 nugget for thee or four months of the year during the high-cooling or high-heating periods, not everybody can do that. Knowing what you’re going to pay each and every month really helps keep the budget easier to manage.
