Massive head cold, serious Cement Head

In case you were wondering why I am more abnormal than usual, I am definitely out of my mind on over-the-counter cold medications this week. I find a blend of DayQuil, TheraFlu Severe Cold (“Severe,” mind you), Cold-Eeze lozenges, Advil, Rolaids and Kleen-ex puts me into Timothy Leary territory.

And here I was thinking I was going to dodge the 2008 bug. Apparently there is a flu — a two week version — right out of Steven King’s The Stand. I cannot afford a case of it and have become agoraphobic as a result.

  1. at the end of the day…I HIGHLY recommend Alka-Seltzer Nighttime cold and flu

just be near a horizontal surface and prepared for Alice in Wonderland type dreams…come to think of it, I have some here at my desk….g’night!

  2. I was down and out (in the ozone) for a good 2.5 weeks. Only recently started feeling human again. Take time and rest – I found that by pushing hard and trying to work, I simply prolonged the agony, and broke as much as I fixed. Simply not work it…

The Spanish Flu in 1918-1919 killed between 50-100 million people (according to Wikipedia) – by contrast, estimates of total casualties for WW1 (1914-1918) were 40 million worldwide. And that one tended to attack the young and healthy.

  3. Might want to throw down some Robitussin DM, along w/ a few Sudafed. Then listen to ‘White Rabbit’ by Jefferson Airplane. By the time you come down, you won’t even remember how to spell flu!

  4. David, Sametime must propagate this stuff out. I’m headed towards what is looking like a nasty cold / flu. I had spent 2 years without getting sick and now I have fallen twice in 6 months.

  5. i got hit this year for the first time in several years, and it knocked me down for a week or so. wasn’t pleased, but it didn’t – in the end – kill me.

  6. I second Chris’ recommendation of the Alka-Seltzer Nighttime approach though you’ve got to watch those meds interactions or you’ll start writing like the reincarnation of Hunter Thompson.

Also, don’t forget the ol’ folk remedies – heavy on the chicken soup (is there a Whole Foods nearby?) and liquids (not single malt!).
