  1. Dave,

    That’s great!

You know, there was a time in the late 90’s when it was said that PC’s would soon not have floppy disk drives. Having grown up with 8″ floppies on TRS-80 16B systems, and 5.25″ floppies on a commodore 64, Apple II and IBM PC, and later those amazing 3.5″ disks on an Amiga, Mac and PC, I scoffed, wondering how we’d ever move our data about.

Alas, the death knell of the sneaker net.

Now, the average powerpoint attachment in my notes is more than what 4 of these 3.5″ disks could hold, and it is hard to remember a time when we could actually use them for anything.

While PC technology continues to shrink, our data continues to supersize

  2. If I remember correctly, the first iMac was the first shipped w/o a floppy drive. Only a CD. The move was roundly condemned.
One of many “radical” (visionary) moves.
