A month without a post….

Since beginning this blog in 2001 I don’t think I’ve gone as long without writing as I have recently with a case of blogger’s-block. I noticed my last post was January 29 and consisted of a simple notice that I’d finished a historical society paper.

I plead business travel, winter ennui, and general overwork. I’m in the middle of two big projects and haven’t had time to lift my head up from either one of them to attend to my personal writing obligations.

Mea culpa accomplished, now to deliver something half-way interesting.

  2. Good to see you back on my screen again.

Here’s an idea that you can ignore if you choose.

I retired in October and with my extra time I’ve been exploring historical issues in Dennis, which probably has more recorded history than any other single town on Cape Cod with the possible exception of Sandwich. Quite by accident I took a walk through the ancient cemetery on Dennis’ north side and viewed some headstones with the name Shiverick, which raised my curiosity of the Shiverick shipyard in Sesuit Harbor where some notable clipper ships were built in the mid 1800s which I think coincided with the California gold rush. Apparently, these vessels were constructed in Dennis and then towed to Boston to be rigged.

    For what it’s worth.
