You can’t make this stuff up: Astronaut accused of flighty behaviour

globeandmail.com: Astronaut accused of flighty behaviour

“Ms. Nowak raced from Houston to Orlando wearing diapers in the car so she wouldn’t have to stop to go to the bathroom, authorities said. Astronauts wear diapers during launch and re-entry.”

  1. I would have thought the diapers would come off during launch and re-entry.

  2. David, this is a very sad story and I wish you and the press had not reported it. It took a lot of work to become an astronaut and she has destroyed her life through uncontrollable emotions. It happens to people and it is very, very sad.

  3. I disagree with Fumento. Her life is not ruined, just changed. After she cops a plea deal in the courts and agrees to go to rehab of some sort she’ll be free as a a bird again. (By the way, Rev. Ted Haggard just got out of rehab and has declared he is 100% heterosexual again.)

After Lettermen, Oprah, Ellen, Jay Leno, Jerry Springer and the rest of the talk show circuit she’ll be rich and infamous. Then of course the book deal and last, but not least, the seven figure playboy pictorial. America is great.

  4. You left out the movie deal. ‘Lifetime’ network perhaps?

Maybe this story is equivalent of a human “bus plunge” story. Not in a 2 sentence, key worded kind of way, but an attention grabbing car / train / plane wreck kind of way that just compells people to spectate and speculate.

What is that? Is it like looking over the edge of the precipice? What compells us to watch, to get close, to feel for it, but not BE it. Is it just primal human nature?
